U+0000 – U+FFFF  ·  Plane 0  ·  64,166 assigned characters

The Basic Multilingual Plane is the foundation of Unicode — it covers U+0000 through U+FFFF and contains virtually every character used in modern writing systems: Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, CJK Unified Ideographs (the common Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters), and thousands of symbols. Characters in the BMP are represented in a single UTF-16 code unit and a maximum of 3 UTF-8 bytes.
